In our modern times, our world can feel out of balance. In places far away, and in locales lying just around the corner, there are daily events that make us all question what shape our world is in. The world feels like it is edging downward and the future appears to be very uncertain. We would like to know that there is some way to return the world to an even keel, but we each look to someone else to show us the way; we look for other people to guide us forward to a better future. However, by seeking someone else to lead that march forward, we have missed the point; the marching forth begins with ourselves.
Exalano Day was created many years ago as a unique holiday where we are all called upon to march forth from our daily routine and do something new and different. The annual call to celebrate Exalano Day has been issued in each of the last thirty-two years by the Exalano Day Committee (the EDC), a very, very small group of people on a mission to save the world, one holiday at a time. The word 'Exalano' comes from the Greek word meaning 'to march forth', and hence it is a natural idea to declare that the fourth day of March should be called Exalano Day. On this most unique holiday, the Exalano Day Committee declares that you should march forth and spend some time changing the world in which you live - by doing something you want to do, something new, something exciting.
On Tuesday, March 4, 2008, all of us should begin to make the world a better place by marching forth and celebrating Exalano Day.
In its design, Exalano Day is a freeform, unconventional holiday dedicated to the unique notion of taking one day a year to march forth and do something different. In 2008, in a message of positive thinking and hope, the EDC calls on all people to march forth and enjoy some of the good things the world has to offer. Marching forth on Exalano Day will move the world in a new direction. Think of something special to do that day and let others around you know what you are planning. In 2008, the EDC is calling for a real revolt - people everywhere marching forth to change the world. If men and women, old or young, all take on the challenge of marching forth to change the world for the better, we offer ourselves and our children the prospect of living in a world that makes sense, in a future to which we can all look forward.
Do whatever you want to do on Exalano Day. Just remember that you have a great chance to begin something pretty special on Tuesday, March 4 – you can change the world.
